In this episode Robert van Altena speaks with Jerry Zeniuk on the occasion of his show New paintings at Slewe Gallery, which will be on view up until 20 December.
”Painting is not only the formal process of creating, but is is also the acknowledgment of the presence of the work, this inanimate object which will be observed. [… ] And I got this from Goethe. I read an essay — I must have been twenty-six — where he says that the object of an artist is to bring you into a garden and give you a journey and then that the artist also leads you out of the garden back to yourself. And I thought that’s right, that’s profound. So that I show you how to come into the painting and I show you how to come out of the painting, back to yourself .” — Jerry Zeniuk
